At Core Contracting, we’ve taken on a lot of hefty projects in Southern and Central California, and we hope that our business will continue to grow as this sunny, welcoming part of the country continues to attract new residents and new businesses each and every day.

We certainly take our responsibility as builders very seriously. Every time we accept a job to construct wood framing for a firehouse, a school, a medical facility, a shopping center, a church, or some other commercial structure, we recognize that it’s our job to do our best. That’s why we’re a union contractor that uses a workforce that consists only of trained and certified union members who go the extra mile to be exemplary in their trade.

Our in-house carpentry division, made up of union contractors, is always up to the task, whether we’re tackling a difficult high-end project that will demand weeks of work or a much smaller venture that will take just a small workforce a few days to complete. Large or small, this group of experts offers the same attention to detail.

While expertise is, of course, essential to a job well done, there’s another prime reason to hire only union carpenters and other union tradespeople.

Safety.

An exemplary record

Whether in California or somewhere else in the U.S., a union contractor of any sort understands the importance of getting a job down well and, in addition, doing it safely.

A press release by New York’s Building Trades Employer’s Association recently touted union-related safety statistics taken from NY Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s data about workplace accidents. It showed that union contractors in the greater New York City area were five times less likely to suffer a fatal accident on the job than non-union workers.

In other words, union contractors prioritize safety. It’s not an afterthought for these individuals who’ve trained in safety protocols for their trade and continue to train through continuing education courses. Statistics like this also show that good safety practices are part of the culture of trade unions and that shortcuts are not taken in order to speed up a project or save money.

A biennial survey commissioned by the Center for Construction Research and Training also points out another important factor in maintaining the excellent safety records so often associated with union contractors. Their most recent survey noted that 78.9 percent of union firms perform job hazard or safety analyses before construction starts, compared with 55.6 percent of non-union firms. That’s a huge percentage difference and no doubt just one of the reasons why union carpenters and other union tradespeople stay safe on the job.

Furthermore, nearly three-quarters of all firms that use union contractors  demand that supervisors undergo an additional 30 hours of OSHA safety training in order to claim their title. That’s yet another layer of protection for all workers and anyone else present at a job site.

Our workers are important to us

Obviously, no business wants their employees to get injured on the job or – worse yet – be killed due to poor safety practices. It’s stating the obvious to say that safety is our number one priority for our workers, which is why we turn to union contractors for our workforce.

As a matter of fact, we design our jobsites with our workers in mind, letting them know that we value their safety. And when incidents do happen – as they do on occasion – we immediately work to find the root cause and fix problems so that a similar accident doesn’t occur again.

What does this mean to you, our client? It means that while you might pay a little more to employ a company that uses union labor, you’ll be assured that your site is safe and that your work will progress with few delays, especially the kinds of delays attributed to poor safety or worker dissatisfaction. Because safety is a priority, you’ll save money caused by such unwanted delays and will be able to open your store, medical practice, church, or other business sooner rather than later.

At Core Contracting, we’re proud of our union workers and eager to show you the projects they’ve completed and share with you our excellent safety record. For more information about our company and how we can help you with your next framing or other construction project, contact us at 760-683-8308.
